LinkedIn DVD LinkedIn for Job Seekers Review by Ask The Headhunter

LinkedIn DVD LinkedIn for Job Seekers Review by Ask The Headhunter Nick Corcodilos is the man behind the famous Ask The Headhunter.   Nicks advice, opinion and wisdom has been read by hundreds of thousands he has been syndicated for a long time.   Anytime Ive read Nicks stuff I found myself agreeing even if I didnt want to, his logic and perspective was strong. Nick recently came out with a new book called How To Work With Headhunters.   Ill write more about that later. I sent Nick a LinkedIn for Job Seekers DVD and hoped he would weigh in on it.   I was more than pleasantly surprised by the in-depth and two-thumbs-up report he gave on his blog.   You can read the entire post at LinkedIn for Job Seekers: A personal tutor.   Here are some things from his post that I really liked: I don’t write about many products or services because it’s rare that I find one worth writing about. Let’s face it, the Net is rife with hyped-up garbag-io. Totally weve been beyond information overload for a long time. I expected a slick video of Jason in a suit lecturing me. (I dunno about you, but I can’t stand scripted videos and droning talking heads.) What makes this video so effective is that it focuses entirely on the LinkedIn screen while Jason stands over your shoulder and walks you through every important page, screen, feature and tool LinkedIn has to offer. There’s no droning… I hear this a lot people expect me to be on a stage telling you what to do in fact, you can see a short preview here, or a long preview here you dont see me speaking at all its all my screen as I walk you through Linkedin, with my commentary and advice. My plan to skip around and get a feel for the  DVD was dashed. I wound up taking my time and taking notes! There is a ton of meat in the DVD I’m not job hunting, but I learned much of what I need to know to use LinkedIn for my business. Great point I say its not just for job seekers. I think this product works so well because Jason Alba is immersed in JibberJobber and he spends all day long thinking about what helps job hunters. Another great point.   I actually think about social tools from two perspectives: (1) from the professional in career management, whether they are in a job search or not, and (2) from an entrepreneur/marketing perspective, so I can figure out how to grow my own business. LinkedIn for Job Seekers costs $49 (if you catch the current promo price). An hour with a tutor will cost you more than that. I charge $250/hour for consulting.   My DVD is over 2 hours long. The math is simple on this one Nick, thanks a ton for this review, it really made my week when I saw it in my Google Alerts LinkedIn DVD LinkedIn for Job Seekers Review by Ask The Headhunter Nick Corcodilos is the man behind the famous Ask The Headhunter.   Nicks advice, opinion and wisdom has been read by hundreds of thousands he has been syndicated for a long time.   Anytime Ive read Nicks stuff I found myself agreeing even if I didnt want to, his logic and perspective was strong. Resume Writing For Hoeschool Moms

Resume Writing For Hoeschool MomsWriting a resume for moms can be challenging. Not only are moms working full time, their schedules don't allow them to just sit down with a pen and paper and start typing away.Resumes, when they're professionally prepared, are usually done and ready to go at the very last minute. Because of this, it's very important that you do your best to make your resume stand out in a crowd. Here are some pointers to help you with your resume writing for hoeschool. When you're writing your resume, keep it easy on the eyes. A boring resume could get you nowhere. A resume should make you look confident in the things you've done and it should also show off the skills you have. This is why simple and straight to the point is key.Stay away from any fluff. Make sure your resume doesn't say anything that is self-serving. It should show just how much your skills match the position you're applying for. Make sure you present your strengths in the proper context. In other wor ds, don't brag but rather praise yourself for being qualified.Keep it short but not short enough to bore the reader. Think about the next person who'll have to read your resume and see what you've written. Even if you have a lot to say, don't write things like 'this is why I'm qualified.' Instead, put your highlight in the accomplishments you have. Even if they are only in the single or two accomplishments, they will show that you're capable of doing it.Use your personal touches: use your birth date, your favorite pet, and other things that show that you're as hard working as you claim to be. These small details can get noticed easily.Emphasize the positives: always make sure you emphasize your positives. A lot of people who lack confidence in themselves feel the need to brag all the time but this will not give them a good impression. Make sure that your resume gives all the reasons you can to your potential employer why you should be hired.Remember that an impressive resume doesn't mean a great job. What's important is getting the job. You may have to go through a few interviews before finding a job but at least now you have the knowledge of how to improve on your resume so you can land a job.

Books that have tortured me.

Books that have tortured me. I am tortured by my books. This is not an uncommon feeling to have. Many people buy books they wish they were reading and then do not read them. Other people  are tortured by the obsessive need to repurpose books. Like  David Bouley turning books into bricks. I do not have those particular forms of book torture. I have others. My first book torture was that I was a latchkey kid in the extreme sense. Like, my parents came home at 8pm and my brother and I used taxi cabs and store credit largely unsupervised. It was hard to get their attention for anything that did not involve physical or mental abuse, but one thing they were always up for was a book recommendation. So I read what they told me to read. My mom recommended So Big, by Edna Ferber. Its about how money doesnt matter because only love matters. Which was incomprehensible to a young girl whose parents gave only money. My dad recommended Sister Carrie  by Theodore Dreiser. There is a lot of sex in that book. Thats all I remember. Of course, because my dad was sexually abusing me. My torture just went on like that until I got to be old enough to choose my own books. It was torture living in a family of book collectors and feeling a need to own every book I read. So I stole them. I stole books from our family bookstore. Maybe 500 in all. My grandma owned the store, and all the employees knew but no one told my grandma, probably because she wouldnt believe them. Then I moved to Los Angeles to play professional beach volleyball. I had no money. I slept on the floor of a studio apartment with no kitchen. I had no clothes except for those that I wore to the beach. I used the last dollars I had to ship my books to my apartment. My parents visited, saw that I had no bed, no kitchen and no clothes, and then went home and sent me a package. Of books. My dad had inherited my great grandfathers book collection, and the part he sent to me was the pornography. This was after he had apologized for sexually abusing me. Dad, you sent me the pornography collection. I know, he said, I thought, of everyone in the family, youre the one who would like it best. I dont need to tell you that that was torture.  I sold the books. They were first editions. Check out Aphrodite and Venus in Furs. These are not cheap books. And, while I was at it, I sold all the first editions I had from my collection of stolen books. Book cleansing. Still, I probably have about 1000 books in the house today. Which is not very many if you grow up in a family that thinks the size of their book collection reflects the size of their IQ. But now I have this blog thats great for selling books. So publishers send me books. So many books that I often open the package, look at it, and throw it in the trash. But then I noticed some of my garbage pile was showing up on Matthews nightstand. Put that in the garbage, I told him. I took it out. I want to read it. No. Its my book. And I want it in the garbage. Ill throw it out when Im done. Fine. How long until youre done? What? I dont want book accumulation. We made a deal that he can take books out of the trash if he puts them back within a week. But he started finding good books.  For example, Matthew liked The Time Warrior, by Steve Chandler. Why are you reading that? I said. Because he says just do one thing. Thats his mantra. I love that. I noticed that he was so pleased with his pile of exonerated books on his nightstand. So I tried it. I put Senia Maymins book there: Profit from the Positive. Shes a friend, and she has taught me so much about learning to be happy. And she specializes is using positive psychology in business, so how could I not read that book? The other book on my nightstand is Dan Schawbels  Promote Yourself. I put it there because Dan is a friend and my favorite critic of the book industry. You know someones really passionate about hating the book industry when the only place you can read about him hating it is on my blog. His hatred is too lethal for his own audience. Matthew said, Is that Dan the guy youre doing your  salary negotiation webinar with? Yeah. How do you know him? Because I hear you apologizing every week that you are postponing the webinar another week. Can I see his book? So Matthew is learning how to promote the brand of Matthew. And I am learning how to make piles of books. I have been more generous about what I keep. Noa Kagayama recommended that I read The Sports Gene. He says it will appeal to my obsession with excellence. The old me would have read the New York Times book review and called it a day. But I bought the book and put it in my new reading pile. Matthew has noticed my piles of books around the house. And this is my last form of book torture, actually. Because I want to control what books he has in the house, because his books are clutter. But I like my own piles of books. The inequities of marriage are torture, and trying to justify them to ourselves is even worse. Are you upset about my piles of books? I ask him. I know its not fair. He says, They remind me of those piles of stones Koreans make so that they get good luck. Cairns. I think thats the name. Its a statement of hope. Im happy for you.

The Top 5 Mistakes Job Searchers Are Making Right Now - Classy Career Girl

The Top 5 Mistakes Job Searchers Are Making Right Now Today I want to dive into the most common mistakes that I am seeing job searchers making right now. I have done over 100 career strategy sessions with women over the last year, so I have heard exactly what is and isn’t working in your job searches. Here are the top 5 mistakes that I am seeing being made right now: Mistake #1: Giving Up The first mistake you might be making is just giving up and quitting your job search because it is just too dang hard. You are quitting because the economy is just too hard to job search. Or maybe you think you will just stay where you are at because it is secure to support your family, even though you hate it. You can’t move forward if you don’t even start taking action, so hopefully, I will inspire you to really make some steps forward and not make this mistake of continuing to stay at your dead end job. Mistake #2: Not Having a Clear Direction The second mistake you may be making is not having a  clear direction. One of the biggest mistakes job searchers make is just to start updating their resumes, or start applying for jobs online without having a  clear direction. If you do this, you will just end up stuck in another dead end job.   When you have a  clear direction and know what you are looking for, it is so much easier for people to help you and hire you. You have a passion for the career, and they want to hire you for the position because you will be more successful at it. If you don’t have a  clear direction, it’s going to be hard to network because you don’t know how to introduce yourself. This holds so many job searchers back from networking. Mistake #3: Not Looking Inward The next mistake is not looking inward. The biggest key to successful job searching is understanding yourself and self-reflecting which is almost always missed because most job searchers just jump into the first job that comes along. They don’t often teach us to find the best career fit to make us happy when we are in college or high school. We jump into a career field we are good at or sounds interesting. You must take steps to look inward and understand yourself better so you can be satisfied and fulfilled in your career. Mistake #4: Only Online Job Searching Eek! Don’t rely on this! Online job searching is great for getting ideas of companies and industries you want to work in. But, it is so easy to hide behind your computer screen instead of getting out there and talking to people instead. Online job searching doesn’t work because of the hidden job market and because there are so many positions out there that aren’t even advertised online. Only relying on online job searching is ineffective because you apply to jobs you don’t really want and there is so much competition online. You are doing nothing to make yourself unique and stand out. Online job searching sucks because you have to make sure your resume is 100% perfect and no human being may ever see your resume. Mistake #5: Not Networking The last big mistake job searchers make is NOT networking. Over 80% of job opportunities are found through networking, so you truly need to devote a lot of your time to this in your job search.  Unfortunately, many people don’t know how to network the right way. Many think networking is just reaching out to a couple of people here and there or going to one networking event and handing out business cards. The truth is, networking is much more than that. The Format of Your Resume and Why You Need to Know It

The Format of Your Resume and Why You Need to Know ItIf you are an employer who wants to hire someone with less experience than yours, then you need to know the proper date for writing your applicant's resume. As a result, you will need to know the exact date for resume writing, especially if you are applying to cover a certain position in a certain company. In this article, we will discuss the most commonly used date format. The most common format is to write your writing resume after a two year absence from your present job. This is because the theory is that the more you leave out, the less it will be seen in comparison to the records of your past work. Thus, if you never went to school during those two years, you will never be considered by a company as a candidate for the position. Therefore, it makes sense to capitalize on this opportunity to make yourself look better in the eyes of the prospective employer. In the next paragraph, you can write about your first year or college ye ars. Depending on the company that you are applying to, this might also be the time to mention any job training you received during that time. It will also help to highlight any volunteer activities you took part in while attending college. In the next paragraph, you can include your performance appraisals and any job promotions you have received while working in your current position. If possible, you can also use these facts to write about your accomplishments since your departure from your previous job.In the third paragraph, you can now include your professional experience and the types of jobs you have worked on during your education. For instance, if you worked as a receptionist or a secretary, you can list this information at the end of your resume writing. In the fourth paragraph, you can finally list out your skills, talents, or accomplishments when doing job description and qualifications. You can mention anything that will help the employer to assess your worth as a potenti al employee. This will allow the employer to have a reference point for how you should improve your resume when submitting it for consideration. In the fifth paragraph, you can again use the same format that you used in the writing resume before. This is done to ensure that the prospective employer can see exactly what they should expect from the person that they are hiring. It will also allow you to include the types of experiences and skills that you have been asked to describe. Finally, in the sixth paragraph, you can briefly explain why you want to work for this company. If you know that the company is looking for someone who is outgoing and fun, you can point this out in your resume writing.

Have you always been dreaming about working as a doctor, teacher, or a lawyer? You should pursue your dreams as long as possible, but you will also need an actionable plan that will get you closer to fulfilling them. Students and those with a lack of experience are not experts with doing career plans. That is why they may want to turn to counselors and do thorough research of the market. Start by identifying your business-related goals. Is money your primary ambition or you want to work in a particular city? Or you only care about becoming a doctor or a successful businessman? Those are your long-term goals. When it comes to short-term ones, consider that you need to finish studies, choose your minors smartly, etc. When deciding on a career path, keep in mind your personality, abilities, and interests. It doesnt matter whether you are fresh out of college and looking for your first position or whether you are in the throes of middle management seeking your next leap up the career ladder, there will be a time when you need to compete. Other candidates will also apply for the same roles that you have your heart set on. Why should you be offered the job over them? You may have the same qualifications, similar experiences and equally polished resumes. You need to think outside the box to give you the edge and help any potential new employer see your worth and that requires a plan. Beat Your Competition In The Job Market Dont Be Afraid of Changing Your Career Path It might have seemed you designed the initial action plan properly, but you ended up doing a job you dont like or appreciate. That indicates it may be time to change the career path, which requires a new plan. You also want to start with your goals, such as looking for a job that is paid more or provides a better balance with your private life. It is of vital importance to do a SWOT analysis where you should write down your strengths and weaknesses, as well as opportunities and threats lurking in the market. Finally, design a short and long-term action plan to achieve your career goals. Effective Workplace Performance Management Are you satisfied with your current company, but are dreaming about getting a promotion? A performance management plan can be a smart move for you. It also consists of a short and long-term action plan, but this time you want to include actions that can deliver measurable results. For example, you can improve your public speaking skills to enhance communication with co-workers and managers and become a better candidate for a promotion. Many workers design this career plan with their employers. Although that may be good for your career at the company you are in, keep in mind that you might need to compromise and give up on some personal ambitions and dreams to fit in with your employers vision. As long as you are honest about your goals, and realistic about your strengths and weaknesses, it should be a piece of cake to get your career on the right track with a designed action plan. Breaking long-term objectives into short-term actions is crucial. Do not forget that you should also review your plans occasionally and adjust them if necessary. What's next? Ready to take action?
